Three-Dimensional Wall Art: Nanning de Vries Signed Six-Tile Studio Ceramic Floral Mural

This authentic mid-century six-tile ceramic mosaic mural by Dutch-South African master potter Nanning de Vries features an expressionist floral bouquet inside a round vase.

The composition utilizes deeply incised sgraffito outlines, vibrant glossy glazes, and a raw, mottled background, beautifully presented in its original hand-crafted solid wood frame as a striking artistic statement for a dining room or entry wall.

Born in the Netherlands, Nanning de Vries (1933–2008) immigrated to South Africa in the mid-century, becoming a highly influential figure in the local studio pottery movement alongside masters like Esias Bosch and Hennie Meyer.

Highly rare as an architectural-scale mosaic assemblage, this multi-piece format required intense technical control during firing to prevent shrinkage warping along the six matching tile seams. Custom-compounded metallic oxide glazes create a deep, glass-like impasto relief texture. Fine Art Verso & Signature Note: Factual confirmation of the artist's incised signature 'NANNING DE VRIES' hand-painted in white script in the lower right corner. The verso retains its original mid-century structural timber backing board framework, original iron eyelet loops, and a heavy-duty wire mounting system with vintage handwritten studio stock codes 'L 87 G' visible in pencil on the upper rear frame rail.

Original Intended Use: Premium architectural installation or residential fine art feature wall. Alternate Suggested Use: Mid-century statement artwork above a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or tiled alcove entrance.
