MY STORY
There's a particular kind of magic in an old thing that has been loved.
A copper pot that has simmered a hundred Sunday stews. A ceramic bowl worn smooth at the rim. A brass frame that once held someone's most treasured photograph. These things carry weight — not just in your hands, but in a room. I've always felt it. I grew up on a farm, but the love for old things — for beautiful, worn, storied objects — didn't come from my childhood. I believe it runs deeper than this lifetime. Some passions can't be explained. They simply are.
What does come from this life is the resilience. My father was the kind of man who could do anything he put his mind to. He was my greatest role model, and though he has been gone for many years, everything I do and every obstacle I push through, I do so, hearing his unwavering supporting voice. I hope I make him proud.
Shift2ThriftVintage was not a plan. It was a calling.
Life has a way of redirecting you — sometimes gently, sometimes not. A corporate job that paid the bills but cost me my joy. Unexpected responsibilities that anchored me to home and to the people I love most. And a moment where I had to ask myself: what now? The answer came the way it always does when you stop forcing it, through feeling. Do what makes you happy and the rest will naturally follow.
I don't picture a buyer when I find a piece.
I feel the joy of it. The beauty. And I trust that the right person will find it. Because that's how the universe works: "what I am looking for is also looking for me". Every piece that comes through my hands is waiting for its person. My job is simply to find it first, and take care of it until they arrive. I find pieces wherever the universe place them in front of me. Over time, the focus sharpened and I now have an extensive collection ranging from vintage homeware to rare collectables. The beautiful and the curious. The things I would put in my own home. The farmhouse kitchen I'm still working towards, with its wood stove and its shelves full of things that earned their place.
Every piece I list is something I would keep, if I kept everything. The double garage we converted into a proper storage space — built by hand, with salvaged glass and wood doors, because that's how we do things here — tells you everything about how seriously I take this.
The name came from a logo I found on Pinterest
I was building my first reselling page and needed something that captured the spirit of thrifting. I loved it. I used it. And apparently, so did a few others who thought the name was the secret. It wasn't. The secret is the eye that captures the magic of treasures long forgotten, but most beloved. Every piece I find, every sale I make is one step closer to the home and the life I am building.
I ship nationwide across South Africa. Your order arrives in recycled packaging — not pretty, but your treasure inside will be very, very safe.
Sometimes I wonder if all the detours — every unexpected turn that kept me here, on South African soil, building something real — were the plan all along. Maybe they were.
