1 October 2026 · Beyond the Collection
Sometimes a useful contribution begins with spotting the right thing in an unexpected place.
I found a batch of sturdy melamine plates at auction and donated them to Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation, a non-profit wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisation based in Limpopo.
Finding useful things at excellent prices is something I do well. This was an opportunity to put that skill to work beyond my own collection: recognising a practical find and connecting it with somewhere it could make a difference.
From An Auction Find To Feeding Time
Later, the foundation sent me photographs showing the donated dishes in use at feeding time. There is something particularly rewarding about seeing a find become part of the everyday care of rescued wildlife.
It was a simple contribution, but a tangible one. Giving does not always have to mean committing more money each month. Sometimes it means using the eye, opportunities and skills you already have to meet a practical need.
Thank you to Carina and Paul for sharing that glimpse of the dishes in use, and for the care you give to the animals at Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation.
