This functional sculpture showcases a mesmerizing, high-contrast topography — juxtaposing the rough, deeply textured original tree bark against a highly polished, amber-toned interior that accentuates wild, swirling grain patterns.

Crafted from a slow-growing, generational timber block estimated to be between 60 to over 100 years old, this extraordinary piece is carved from indigenous African Wild Olive wood (Olea europaea subsp. africana).

Each line tells the story of an ancient tree weathered by the African elements.

The base has been seamlessly planed flat, allowing this piece to sit entirely sturdy and balanced. It serves as a lovely dining table centrepiece and fruit gallery, or a standalone statement item on a console or executive desk.

Timber Origin: Southern Africa (Indigenous Wild Olive / Kiaat family). Estimated Tree Age: 60 – 100+ Years (Slow-grown ancient hardwood). Estimated Carving Era: Circa 1996 – 2016 (Well-seasoned, excellent modern vintage preservation).

Hand-carved by a local artisan approximately 10 to 30 years ago, this piece represents a masterclass in organic live-edge woodwork.

Rather than using mechanical lathes, the sculptor meticulously chiselled out the heartwood while preserving the rugged, raw tree bark along the flanks. It is a stunning bridge between untouched African wilderness and mid-century sculptural art.
