Classical & Historical Art: G. Colombo - "Amorini Orafi" (The Goldsmith Cupids) Pompeii Fresco Copy
Classical & Historical Art: G. Colombo - "Amorini Orafi" (The Goldsmith Cupids) Pompeii Fresco Copy
Lovely hand-painted gouache reproduction with vibrant colour, and academic archaeological sophistication.
Painted in 1998 by Italian copyist G. Colombo, this piece is a highly detailed rendition of the famous Goldsmith and Metallurgist Cupids ("Amorini Orafi e Metallurgi") fresco from the House of the Vettii excavations in Pompeii. The artwork is beautifully executed over deep Pompeian red and rich black bands, capturing the whimsical movements of the winged Cupids working at a jewelry workshop bench and weighing precious metals.
Professionally mounted behind glass in a classic beaded gilt-wood frame by Tony Gray’s Framing in Johannesburg, this pristine vintage painting adds immediate historical character and timeless warmth to any curated home library, executive workspace, or entryway vignette. Pairs beautifully as a matching set with our companion piece, Listing 053 (The Chariot Race).
