Coloured Glass: Duralex France Amber Pitcher

Vintage Duralex France amber glass beverage pitcher — made in France, 1960s–1970s.

A heavy, large vintage amber glass pitcher by the iconic Duralex brand — a celebrated piece of mid-century European utilitarian design. The body curves gently outward toward a wide rim and elongated organic pouring lip, balanced by a solid transparent glass handle and a very thick weighted base with a 1cm thickness profile, reflecting Duralex's famous shock-resistant heavy glass engineering.

Did you Know?

Duralex pioneered the glass tempering process in the mid-20th century, making their kitchenware virtually indestructible.

The bottom base features a distinct ring of moulded striae dots or gripping nodules, which was a trademark functional engineering feature utilized by French factories to prevent suction-sticking on smooth or wet bar counters.

The impressive weight profile is achieved through a specialized thick-press moulding method, which concentrates a solid 1 cm of un-cut glass at the base to ensure a low centre of gravity and optimum stability during table service.
