Cutlery Boxed: Antique Edwardian Fish Serving Set with Bakelite Handles

Collectible 2-Piece Antique Edwardian Silver-Plated Master Fish Serving Set in Original Presentation Box.

A magnificent and highly collectible 2-piece antique Edwardian silver-plated master fish serving set, presented in its original custom-fitted velvet and silk-lined presentation box. The set consists of an extra-large scimitar-bladed fish serving knife (slice) alongside a beautifully proportioned broad four-tine fish serving fork.

Both pieces showcase broad silver-plated surfaces decorated with fine-line bright-cut floral and foliate engravings on the blade and tines. The reverse neck of each stem features crisp recessed British faux-hallmarks stamped inside four individual square shields. The utensils are anchored by mirror-polished decorative metal ferrule bands locking seamlessly into smooth classic cream Ivorine handles.

Fitted snugly into its original padded presentation case with ruched cream satin lid lining and a deep black velvet display tray.

Original Intended Use: Formal tableside presentation, portioning, and carving of whole baked or poached fish during multi-course residential dinner parties.

Alternate Suggested Use: A dramatic statement carving set for large gourmet charcuterie platters, elegant serving utensils for a classic Sunday roast, or high-value props for food staging and lifestyle photography.

More Details

The smooth cream handles are made of Ivorine—a highly collectible, durable mid-century celluloid development designed by historic Sheffield foundries to achieve the luxurious look of genuine ivory without the common tendency to split or crack when washed.

Master serving pairs in their original presentation boxes are highly prized by collectors on international trading networks like Etsy and eBay because they represent a fully complete, functional entertainment vignette.

Did you Know?

Did you know that dedicated fish carvers became an essential status symbol during the late Victorian and Edwardian grand dining era?

Because fish flesh is delicate and breaks apart easily under standard steel table knives, silversmiths engineered these broad, unsharpened flat slices to effortlessly separate fillets from the bone without shredding the meat.

Origin & Era

Made in Sheffield, United Kingdom, 1910s-1920s.

Approximate Dimensions:

The silver-plated blade and tines show honest surface cleaning scratches, minor handling scuffs, and light natural tarnish from historic use but are free of any plating wear-through or heavy pitting.

The sturdy cream Ivorine handles are rock-solid with zero hairline cracks or wiggle at the ferrules.

The original hardshell case latch mechanism functions perfectly, showing light exterior corner rubbing and minor age discoloration marks on the internal satin lid fabric.
