Dinnerware: Langenthal Swiss Porcelain "Morning Glory" Tureen Casserole

Masterfully manufactured in Switzerland by the renowned porcelain works of Langenthal, this heavy-gauge vitrified porcelain serving dish belongs to their celebrated "Morning Glory" collection.

The exterior walls are detailed with a vibrant botanical study of trailing pink Morning Glory blossoms showing soft coral-pink fruit, delicate buds, and swirling olive-green vines, framed by a modern rounded-square silhouette with integrated loop handles. Completely functional as a premium hot vegetable serving vessel or a striking display piece, this authentic vintage archive item adds an immediate layer of organic warmth and luxury to an open country hutch display or kitchen island layout. Pairs perfectly as a magnificent, graduated set with our matching Langenthal Morning Glory Platter.

The Swiss Langenthal Pedigree: The base features the official green factory stamp showing the striped shield reading: "SUISSE LANGENTHAL", explicitly stamped on both the tureen basin and the matching inset dome lid. This provides ironclad provenance validation for top-tier vintage porcelain archives. High-Fire Vitrified Body: Thrown from premium, feldspathic white clay fired to extreme temperatures, creating a glass-hard, non-porous structure that resists thermal shock, cutlery scuffs, and organic food staining. Lidded Architectural Engineering: Form-engineered with thick-walled, reinforced side loop lift lugs and a custom-fitted inset dome lid equipped with a flush circular finial handle that helps retain high liquid steam temperatures during table service.

Original Intended Use: Premium residential hot vegetable serving, communal soup service, or formal casserole presentation. Alternate Suggested Use: A spectacular texturized staging prop system for culinary lifestyle photography, an elegant tabletop centrepiece dish, or a beautiful feature piece on an open kitchen shelf vignette.

Did you Know?

The historic town of Langenthal became world-famous for its porcelain because the local factories engineered a highly secret firing recipe that mixed pure quartz with kaolin sand, resulting in dishes so structurally dense they could be dropped onto wooden floors without chipping! During the mid-20th century, Swiss families treated these covered vegetable tureens as high-status heirloom wedding gifts, designed to match their grand master meat platters. The floral decals were fused deep into the liquid glass glaze, ensuring the soft pink blossoms and delicate vines would stay permanently vibrant and scratch-proof even after decades of hot baking fires and country kitchen use!

Origin & Era

Made in Switzerland (Langenthal, Canton of Bern), c. 1960s. Making this dish 60 years of age!

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Lidded Height 8.5cm, Height 7cm, Length 24.5cm, Width 21cm.

Vintage Condition

Excellent vintage collector condition. The heavy Swiss porcelain structures across both the main tureen and the matching lid remain rock-solid and structurally pristine throughout, featuring zero structural hairline cracks down the body walls, zero chips to the loop handles, inner rims, or lid borders, and zero modern restorations. The interior white glaze remains incredibly clean, smooth, and highly reflective, showing absolutely zero utensil cut marks, internal yellow surface stains, or usage scuffs. I am not sure what the green is on the inside of the edge, but it appears to be of the same colour as the green paint on the leaf detail.
