High Tea: Alboth & Kaiser Duos, 7

Vintage Alboth & Kaiser "Alka-Kunst" High Tea Duos in Geometric Lattice Pattern — 9 Pieces.

Four elegant cup-and-saucer duos plus a matching lidded sugar bowl in a striking mid-century modern geometric lattice pattern. The structured interlocking grey graphic design resembles stylized mesh or vertical diamonds, accented with a fine gold-gilt band separating the patterned border from the crisp white porcelain centre.

Manufactured by the prestigious Bavarian porcelain house Alboth & Kaiser (Alka-Kunst) in Germany, these pieces carry the authentic "alka-kunst" backstamp, dating them to the 1938–1958 production window — a highly collectible era for German porcelain.

Original Intended Use: Serving afternoon tea or coffee for four guests with a coordinated Bavarian porcelain service.

More Details

Alboth & Kaiser was founded in 1872 by August Alboth as a porcelain decorating business in Kronach, Bavaria. The company later became "Alka-Kunst" in 1928 — a name combining the first two letters of the founders' surnames, Alboth and Kaiser. The factory later relocated to Staffelstein and continued producing fine Bavarian porcelain until the mid-20th century. Items stamped "Alka Bavaria" are generally dated between 1938 and 1958, while pieces marked "Made in Western Germany" post-date World War II, typically placing them in the 1950s.

Did you Know?

The grey geometric lattice pattern on this set is closely related to the mid-century modern design movement that swept European decorative arts in the 1950s, as post-war manufacturers moved away from traditional floral chintz toward bold, graphic, architectural motifs. Very similar patterns were produced by other Bavarian manufacturers including Königlich Tettau under their "Ria" and "Koh-i-Noor" lines, confirming this as a widely admired and commercially successful aesthetic of the era. Finding a matched set with a lidded sugar bowl intact is increasingly uncommon.
