Coffee Tea Service: Johnson Brothers Holland Blue, 24

24-Piece Vintage Johnson Brothers "Holland Blue" Tea Service — 8 Trios.

A beautiful and collectible 24-piece tea service in the iconic Holland Blue Scenes pattern by Johnson Brothers of Stoke-on-Trent, England. Comprising 8 cups, 8 saucers, and 8 cake plates, this set is a complete and generous hosting service for eight guests.

The Holland Blue Scenes pattern was introduced in 1974 and discontinued in 1978 — a short five-year production run that makes complete sets increasingly rare. Produced during the prestigious Wedgwood Era of Johnson Brothers (following their 1968 acquisition), these ironstone pieces feature smoother rims and distinct blue-and-white floral scenes in the classic Delft tradition. Originally marketed as dishwasher and microwave safe, reflecting the modern household needs of the 1970s.

Original Intended Use: Serving afternoon tea or coffee for eight guests in coordinated English ironstone tableware.

More Details

Johnson Brothers was founded in 1883 in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, by four brothers — Alfred, Frederick, Henry, and Robert Johnson. The company became one of Britain's most prolific and beloved tableware manufacturers, known for producing high-quality, durable ironstone china at accessible price points. In 1968, Johnson Brothers was acquired by Wedgwood, and pieces produced during this era carry the prestige of both the Johnson Brothers craftsmanship tradition and Wedgwood's quality oversight. The Holland Blue Scenes pattern is particularly sought after for its crisp blue-and-white transfer print scenes, reminiscent of classic Dutch Delftware.

Did you Know?

The Holland Blue Scenes pattern was only in production for five years (1974–1978), making complete 24-piece sets like this one exceptionally hard to find intact today. Johnson Brothers pioneered the concept of open-stock china — selling individual pieces so customers could replace breakages — which means many sets were built up piece by piece over years. Finding all 24 pieces in matching condition from this short production window is a genuine collector's achievement.
