Italian: Empoli Art Glass Amethyst Compote Bowl

Breathtakingly Beautiful 1960s Italian Empoli Art Glass Pedestal Compote Bowl.

Featuring a majestic 4-point hand-flared ruffled wave rim in a dramatic, deep amethyst purple hue. In ambient indoor environments, the glass holds a rich, sophisticated near-black plum colour. When lifted into natural daylight, the piece undergoes an exquisite colour transformation, revealing a luminous, vibrant magenta-to-orchid ombré gradient.

The technical hand-blown assembly includes a completely open hollow double-walled pedestal base that narrows upwards into a clear crystal solid waist joint collar, creating the spectacular optical illusion of a floating "purple pear" chamber trapped inside the clear stem.

More Details
  • 4-point hand-flared ruffled wave rim in deep amethyst purple — reveals luminous magenta-to-orchid ombré in daylight.
  • Hollow double-walled pedestal base fused at the waist with a clear crystal collar — creates the "floating purple pear" optical illusion.
  • Fire-polished base rim — smoothed by furnace heat, not a cutting wheel.
  • Tiny embedded air seed in the foot — proof of authentic small-batch hand-blown production.
  • Display near a window or on a lit shelf to showcase its phenomenal optical properties.
  • Use as a centrepiece tazza, floating floral bowl, key valet, or luxury candy dish.
Did you Know?

Verified Italian Origin: This piece is confirmed vintage Italian art glass from the historic Empoli region of Tuscany, circa 1960s.

Fire-Polished Base Ring: The bottom foot rim features a glossy, rounded "fire-polished" finish rather than a raw, mechanically ground flat edge. This means the artisan smoothed the glass using extreme furnace heat rather than a cutting wheel, preserving pristine clarity along the entire underside.

The Empoli Proof: Unlike solid American pressed-glass bases, this piece features a wide-open, completely hollow hand-blown pedestal base. The upper bowl and the hollow foot were blown separately, then fused at the waist with a heavy ring of molten crystal.

Artisan Proof: Look closely at the wide foot to spot a tiny, embedded air "seed" or production bubble—these rare microscopic pockets are celebrated by art glass collectors as absolute proof of small-batch hand-blown authenticity.
