Vintage 1960s Italian Empoli art glass apothecary jar in ruby red — attributed to Rossini or Stelvia.

A stunning large-scale statement piece of mid-century Italian export glass from the Tuscany region. Features a vibrant ruby red body with a vertical optic ribbed texture that catches and refracts light beautifully, finished with hand-applied clear glass rigaree (crimped trim) around the lid and base, topped with a clear stylised floral finial. Collectors call this the iconic "Circus Tent" or "Apothecary" style.

While often confused with Murano glass, this style is definitively Empoli glass. The town of Empoli has a glassmaking history dating back to the 13th century, but became world-famous in the 1950s and 1960s for its colourful decorative store jars and apothecary vessels. Unlike Murano — which focused on intricate lampworking and millefiori — Empoli specialised in large-scale, boldly coloured blown glass with optic textures and applied decorative trim, exported globally as the height of Italian mid-century modern home décor.
