A beautiful mid-century modern art glass posy basket handcrafted by Iwatsu Glass in Japan. Features a vibrant "End of Day" spatter design of golden amber, warm yellow, and orange tones encased in a thick clear crystal body, with an intricately applied clear twisted-rope handle, ruffled handkerchief rim, and a hand-tooled cogwheel rigaree pedestal base. "End of Day" glass — also known as spatter glass — gets its name from the tradition of glassblowers using up leftover molten glass at the end of a production day by combining multiple colours into a single piece. The result is a uniquely random, never-repeatable pattern of colour splashes and swirls. Iwatsu Glass was one of Japan's leading mid-century art glass producers, known for combining European glassblowing techniques — particularly Italian rigaree and rope handle methods — with Japanese precision and craftsmanship. Their pieces from the 1970s are increasingly sought after by collectors as the MCM revival continues to grow.
