Lucia Ware: Master Collection Matching Jet Black Vases, Trio

Vintage Lucia Ware (Boksburg East Potteries) master collection — three matching jet black art pottery vessels, made in South Africa, 1950s–1960s.

A premium curated trio representing the height of local 1950s/1960s monochrome chic — three distinct sculptural silhouettes finished in Lucia Ware's legendary ultra-glossy jet-black enamel glaze with brilliant mirror-like reflective properties. Hand-crafted at the historic Boksburg East Potteries (BEP) kilns in Gauteng. Finding a matching three-piece monochrome black set intact from the same estate is an exceptional rarity.

More Details

All three collector pieces showcase Lucia Ware’s legendary, ultra-glossy jet-black enamel glaze, boasting brilliant, mirror-like reflective properties.

The matching 3-piece set includes:

  1. The 'Pillar Flute' Pedestal Tazza: A magnificent, heavy boat-shaped centrepiece bowl featuring deep vertical exterior fluted ribbing, a wavy scalloped rim, and a thick circular pedestal foot.
  2. The 'Gondola' Mantel Urn: An aerodynamic, sweeping boat-shaped posy vase flanked by oversized, dramatic stylized scroll handles.
  3. The 'Pumpkin' Console Trough (Shape 1320): A low-profile oblong structural planter featuring deep, bulbous vertical fluted lobes and a scalloped upper rim.

Hand-crafted at the historic Boksburg East Potteries (BEP) kilns in Gauteng, South Africa. Lucia Ware is celebrated as one of the most culturally nostalgic domestic ceramic brands of the mid-20th century.

Did you Know?

While only one piece retains its crisp factory marking, all three vessels are verified authentic Lucia Ware based on their identical clay compound, distinct foot rings, and matching specialty high-gloss black glaze recipe — the other two originally used paper or foil stickers that wore away with vintage handling over time. The glossy black series was produced in limited quantities for the ultra-modern, high-end interior decorators of the late 1950s and 1960s. Group the three pieces asymmetrically across a mid-century teak room divider or side table to let the deep flutes, curves, and glossy surfaces capture dramatic lighting reflections.
