Lucia Ware: Miniature Beehive Pattern Bud Vases, Pair

Vintage Lucia Ware (Boksburg East Potteries) miniature beehive pattern bud vases in sunflower yellow — pair, made in South Africa, 1950s–1960s.

A striking balanced duo styled as pocket-sized twin-handled amphora jugs, featuring a highly structural ringed beehive texture wrapping the lower half of the tapered bodies. Slender necks flare into elegant rims designed to cradle delicate floral stems, flanked by two perfectly proportioned geometric loop handles. Coated in a uniformly rich high-gloss sunflower yellow glaze — a vibrant monochromatic accent pair for any mid-century shelf or windowsill.

More Details
  • Lucia Ware mould mark "Lucia 1501" on base of both vases — officially designed as a miniature bud vase, not a cruet.
  • Ringed beehive texture on lower body, twin geometric loop handles, flared rim.
  • High-gloss sunflower yellow glaze — uniform shine across both vessels, clean interiors.
  • Superficial hairline surface scratch on glaze of one vase (not structural). Authentic factory glaze skips and kiln pinholes present.
  • Hand-crafted at Boksburg East Potteries (BEP), Gauteng, circa 1950s–1960s.
Did you Know?

While Lucia Ware is widely famous for its deep forest-green log planters and trough vases, the brand's vibrant monochromatic accent lines — produced in sunflower yellow, cobalt blue, and other bold hues — are among the most collectible pieces in the range. Boksburg East Potteries (BEP) produced Lucia Ware from 1950 in Gauteng, initially to fill extra kiln space for the South African Glazing Company. The 1501 mould, with its distinctive beehive texture and twin amphora handles, is one of the most recognisable and sought-after shapes in the Lucia Ware catalogue.
