Master Potter: Andrew Walford - Zulu Zen Ikebana Vase

Authentic Andrew Walford signed Zulu Zen Ikebana set — large 26cm two-piece, made in South Africa, Shongweni.

A large authentic two-piece Ikebana flower arranging set by world-renowned master potter Andrew Walford. Includes a slab-built rectangular tray and a perfectly matching hand-thrown bowl. High-fired reduction stoneware with a white-grey crackle glaze base decorated with Walford's signature fluid calligraphic brushwork in deep cobalt blue with iron-rich slip accents. The wide tray acts as a "water field" while the bowl serves as a secondary vessel or matching decorative accent — a masterful fusion of Japanese minimalist philosophy and South African soul.

Did you Know?

Andrew Walford (born 1942) is considered one of the leading figures in the Anglo-Oriental pottery tradition, having been influenced by legends Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. He is legendary for digging his own clay and formulating his own glazes from local raw materials near his Shongweni studio in KwaZulu-Natal. His work is celebrated for its "spontaneity" — a Zen principle where every brushstroke reflects a single, unedited moment of creative energy. His pieces are held in major South African collections and regularly appear at Strauss & Co auction.
