High Tea: Midwinter Bella Vista Pedestal Cake Stand — 1960s British Retro Ceramic (22cm)

This Midwinter “Bella Vista” pedestal cake stand is a vibrant example of 1960s British modernist ceramic design. The Bella Vista pattern is known for its bold, hand‑painted floral and geometric motifs rendered in white, deep navy blue, leaf green, golden yellow, maroon / wine red, and fine black detailing. This expressive palette is characteristic of Midwinter’s most iconic design era, where studio‑influenced brushwork and strong graphic forms defined the brand’s aesthetic.

Bella Vista pieces were produced in smaller quantities than Midwinter’s mainstream patterns, making surviving examples less common and increasingly desirable among collectors who appreciate colourful mid‑century retro design. The elevated pedestal form adds sculptural height and presence, making this piece both functional and visually striking.

Originally intended for serving cakes, pastries, or desserts, this pedestal stand also works beautifully as a display riser, centerpiece platform, or shelf décor accent. The glaze is glossy and stable, and the ceramic top shows no chips, cracks, or visible surface scratches. The chrome foot shows minor age‑related wear, which is expected for a piece of this age.

This example does not carry the standard Midwinter printed date stamp, which is typical for certain production runs of Bella Vista pedestal stands.
