This expressive original oil landscape captures the peaceful essence of a rural South African settlement resting quietly along a riverbank.

Executed with bold, textured palette work and refined brushstrokes, the composition layers rustic whitewashed cottages and native trees against an expansive, wind-swept afternoon sky. The interplay of earthy tones on the riverbank paired with the deep blue of the water provides a captivating sensory experience.

Display this beautifully framed piece on a wood-panelled gallery wall, an executive study desk easel, or a brightly lit entry console to bring historical warmth and vintage sophistication to a modern interior layout.

Plein-air landscape paintings from late 20th-century South African independent painters are experiencing a notable resurgence among global art collectors. These works act as critical historical records of regional architectural styles, unblemished water systems, and local vegetation structures prior to modern industrial expansion.

Made in South Africa, 1987, making this oil painting 39 years old.

Each piece is researched with care and supported by comprehensive historical notes drawn from available sources, comparative analysis, and archival references. While I am not a certified appraiser or authentication specialist, my attributions reflect careful independent research and may be refined as new evidence emerges. These notes are offered to enrich understanding and appreciation of each item, rather than as formal guarantees of age, provenance, or authenticity.

Height 22cm, Width 28cm, Depth 4cm (Frame Outer Dimensions).

Very good vintage condition.

Visible Flaws: Light minor shelf wear and age-appropriate scuffs along the outer dark wooden frame edges. The inner canvas board shows a faint, clean, natural patina on the sky area, and the linen fabric matting exhibits minor, historical age spots on the left register, adding to its authentic gallery-aged character.
