T.G. Green: Cornish Ware Blue: Dreadnought Pitcher

T.G. Green & Co. Cornishware 1.5-Pint "Dreadnought" Milk/Water Pitcher.

The iconic T.G. Green & Co. Ltd. Classic "Cornish Blue" line features striking cobalt bands against a clean white clay profile, encapsulating the definitive English country kitchen aesthetic.

Finding mid-century kitchen ceramics completely free of structural damage is an absolute rarity, making this piece perfect for premium display or high-end styling.

The base features the original green banner backstamp, dating this specific production run between the 1930s and 1960s. The piece sits perfectly flat, possesses an incredibly vibrant high-gloss finish, and has incised mold numbers 45 and 18 stamped right into the bottom clay.

Original Intended Use: Sizable milk, water, or fresh cream kitchen pitcher.

Did you Know?

Cornishware got its name because an early sales representative said the blue and white stripes reminded them of the blue skies and white-crested waves of Cornwall. Introduced in 1926 by T.G. Green & Co. at the Church Gresley potteries in Derbyshire, the iconic stripes were achieved by turning the unfired blue-glazed pottery on a lathe to scrape away bands of colour, exposing the stark white clay beneath. Original mid-century pieces with the coveted green banner backstamp are highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Origin & Era

Made in England, Circa 1930s–1960s.

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Height 12cm, Length 16cm (Across Handle to Spout), Width 12 cm (Base Diameter), Volume 1.5 Pint Capacity (~850ml).

Vintage Condition

Excellent, collector-grade structural condition. Completely functional with brilliant glossy glaze depth. Minor age-related wear.

Flaws include two dark under-glaze black factory paint transfer/kiln marks on the upper blue band near the handle, along with a singular pinpoint speck near the spout. These occurred during the mid-century manufacturing process and are sealed entirely beneath the smooth, glossy surface glaze.

Fine, light micro-crazing is present in the clear overglaze under close direct lighting, which is entirely normal for genuine earthenware of this age. Absolutely ZERO chips, cracks, or post-production flea bites on the rim, spout, or handle.
