Description: Tim Morris Signed Studio Pottery Slab Vase. 

Heavy-Duty, Reduction-Fired Stoneware Clay, coated in a beautiful, tactile creamy oatmeal-white ash glaze base. Each face features a hand-painted vertical chain of iron oxide circular motifs achieved through an expert wax-resist wash technique. The top features a hand-thrown, tapered open collar neck showcasing raw clay edges. 

Dating from the golden era of local studio ceramics (circa 1970s/1980s), this architectural four-sided tall vessel features the iconic incised "TM" artist monogram deeply carved into the unglazed base.

This piece showcases his signature method of hand-building sharp geometric forms out of thick stoneware clay slabs, contrasted by fluid, organic wax-resist iron slip circular motifs.

Tim Morris (1941–1990) was a legendary pioneer of the South African studio pottery movement.

Working from his famous studio in Muldersdrift, he fused traditional Anglo-Oriental high-fire reduction techniques with the raw, texturally rich materials of the South African landscape.

The glaze retains superb tactile quality with authentic iron speckling, kiln-fired pinholes, and beautiful caramelized pooling along the sharp slab corners, giving the piece immense artisan character. The flat unglazed base shows authentic shelf-wear patination appropriate for its age.
