Decorative Plates: Thomas Germany Rosenthal Fruit Motif Cabinet Plates, 2

Bring classical European porcelain heritage into your architectural layout with this striking set of two vintage Thomas Germany cabinet plates. Slip-cast from premium ivory vitrified porcelain by a subsidiary of the iconic Rosenthal group, each wide display plate features a central still-life transfer print showcasing a rich cluster of purple grapes alongside two sun-ripened peaches. The deep coupe borders are finished with a clean, hand-gilded 22-karat gold trim that catches ambient light beautifully. Having completed their historical dining table duties, these porcelain beauties are perfect to mount as a vertical pair in a formal dining room layout, arrange as statement wall accents for a sophisticated pantry entrance, or display on standalone plate stands to break up minimal wood shelving.

The Thomas porcelain factory, founded in Marktredwitz, Bavaria in 1903, was officially acquired by the prestigious Rosenthal porcelain group in 1908 to run alongside their premier elite gallery lines as a high-standard hallmark of German ceramic engineering. The elegant green underglaze factory backstamps featuring the clean shield emblem enclosing an architectural script "R" directly records the mid-20th-century production era when the Bavarian workshop cross-branded their elite vitrified blanks with historic decorative patterns.

This marked matching pair belongs to a discontinued, heritage mid-century Thomas Germany collection under pattern registry 3206, making it vital for porcelain set completions.

Original Intended Use: Premium formal dinnerware presentation platters or upscale fruit service dishes. Alternate Suggested Use: Interlocking wall art panels for a dining room gallery wall, high-end kitchen entrance vignette, or sophisticated dresser top layers.

Did you Know?

Mid-century Bavarian porcelain houses hand-painted their rim boundaries with liquid gold before the final kiln firing to bond the metal directly into the clear vitrified glaze. This intense high-temperature process ensured the wide coupe plates would retain their pristine structural ring over the decades, while the rich, multi-layered colour transfers accurately captured the fine texture and painterly cross-hatching details found in classical European oil-on-canvas culinary masterworks.

Origin & Era

Made in Bavaria Germany, Circa 1950s–1960s, making this Porcelain Set 65+ years old.

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Diameter 33cm.

Vintage Condition

Good vintage condition displaying authentic signs of historical household utility. The structural porcelain bodies are exceptionally solid and completely free from chips, cracks, or hairline fractures. Visible Flaw: Both plates show light, visible surface knife cuts and superficial scratching to the central clear glaze from historic table use, with minimal rubbing to the hand-gilded gold rim bands as photographed. Of the two plates, I have photographed the one which showed the most wear.
