The International Art Company of Chicago was one of the absolute giants of the customized portrait trade during the Great Depression era!

Their agents would travel internationally to collect family photos, which were shipped back to Chicago to be meticulously enhanced by hand-tinting artists before being fitted into these signature heavy oval bubble glass frames.

Because shipping massive curved glass panels internationally was incredibly dangerous and expensive, very few of these Chicago-stamped pieces survived the global journey intact to reach South African collections today!
