Decorative Plates: Shorter & Son Large Majolica Fish Platter Display Plate

This magnificent vintage earthenware fish platter is an iconic piece of mid-century English majolica design, expertly modelled by the historic pottery house of Shorter & Son Ltd.

The substantial cabinet plate features highly dimensional, relief-moulded scales, stylized fins, and a characterful, expressive face that brings true architectural texture to any room. It is finished in a vibrant, high-gloss glazed ombre wash transitions beautifully from an intense seafoam turquoise base into a mottled ochre torso and deep grey-slate upper dorsal trim.

Perfect for a premium gallery wall feature, it commands incredible visual presence when styled flat on an open dining server or displayed vertically on an elegant plate stand.

Shorter & Son Ltd operating out of the Copeland Street Works in Stoke-on-Trent, England, became internationally famous for their whimsical, masterfully sculpted art pottery and decorative marine-themed tableware. The relief-moulded architectural body and hand-painted glaze transitions replicate the classic late Victorian majolica traditions that the factory successfully revitalized for sophisticated mid-century collectors.
