Planter: United Wilson Blue Willow Porcelain Cachepot Planter

A classic piece of late 20th century Chinoiserie pottery crafted to bring timeless oriental pattern work to curated home interiors.

This trumpet shaped cachepot features a flared upper rim and tapering waist, flanked by two robust cobalt blue shell shaped handles. The porcelain body is decorated in a deep blue transferware layout depicting the traditional Blue Willow landscape — pagodas, bridges, and weeping willow trees — rendered with crisp tonal contrast. An intentional, heavy network of crazing lines runs uniformly through the glaze to mimic the antiqued patina of early export wares. Perfectly scaled to function as a premium indoor planter for a small potted topiary or white orchid, it makes a striking statement on an entry console or dining sideboard.

Produced by the United Wilson Porcelain Factory, operating as a major decorative export producer out of Hong Kong and Macau. The base bears the circular blue underglaze factory backstamp featuring a crown and laurel wreath crest over an “1895” banner, accompanied by a partial vintage paper inventory label.

This piece features the iconic Blue Willow landscape variant produced by United Wilson during their late 20th century revival era. While these decorative cachepots are discontinued, standalone flared bucket planters with integrated shell handles remain highly sought after by decorators assembling mixed Chinoiserie vignette displays.

Original Intended Use: Decorative interior cachepot planter or mantle vase. Alternate Suggested Use: Elegant desktop stationery holder or kitchen herb crock.

The two small blue characters stamped at the bottom edge of the base, “仿古” (Fang Gu), literally translate to “in imitation of the old.” This mark was intentionally applied at the factory to declare that the vessel was produced as a modern decorative reproduction modelled directly after historical 18th century Chinese export porcelain.
