Vintage Boksburg East Potteries Vermont hand-painted floral basket vase in emerald green glaze — made in South Africa, 1950s–1960s.

A highly sculptural piece featuring a dramatic flared silhouette with ribbed tier-moulded walls and a beautifully arched fixed overhead handle. Blanketed in a rich multi-toned emerald green glaze with stunning high-gloss pooling, adorned with hand-painted clusters of delicate white blossoms with bright orange centres and fine golden-brown foliage. The original black-and-white foil brand label is still intact on the front rim. Base bears the hand-incised script signature "Vermont" and shape index number "G111".

The Vermont line was one of Boksburg East Potteries' premium ranges, produced alongside Lucia Ware at their Gauteng factory from the 1950s. BEP imported high-quality moulds from the USA and employed local artisans to hand-apply enamel floral decorations before firing — a labour-intensive process that gave each piece its unique character. Authentic Vermont pieces with intact original foil labels are becoming increasingly scarce on the South African vintage market, making labelled examples significantly more desirable to collectors.

The emerald green glaze retains an incredible, liquid-gloss shine over the entire body, interior, and handle. Hand-painted floral motifs remain exceptionally crisp with excellent colour retention. The original foil brand label is still firmly intact on the exterior wall. Absolutely scratch-free.

Minor age-related wear. No structural cracks, chips, or scratches. Features typical, mild age-related glaze crazing across the body, a natural hallmark of mid-century South African earthenware pottery. Faint shelf friction wear to the unglazed white clay base ring.
