Drinkware: Jeanette Glass Iridescent Marigold Tumbler

Vintage Jeannette Glass Iris & Herringbone Iridescent Marigold Tumbler — a beautiful example of American carnival glass produced by the Jeannette Glass Company from 1928, with the marigold iridescent finish being most popular during the 1930s.

The pattern features a background of fine herringbone lines with a raised iris and lily design, finished in a warm peach-marigold iridescent glaze that shimmers beautifully in natural light. Original pieces like this one are identifiable by their sharper, crisper moulding compared to later reissues.

More Details

The Jeannette Glass Company produced the Iris & Herringbone pattern from 1928 through the 1970s, with the original 1930s marigold carnival glass pieces being the most sought-after by collectors. The iridescent finish was achieved by spraying metallic salts onto the hot glass surface before firing, creating the characteristic rainbow shimmer that gives carnival glass its name.

Original 1930s pieces are distinguishable from later reissues by their sharper, crisper mould definition — later reissues show softer, less defined pattern edges as the moulds aged and wore down over decades of production.

Did you Know?

Depression Glass was mass-produced in the USA from the mid-1920s through the 1940s and was often given away free as promotional items — in cereal boxes, at movie theatres, or as purchase bonuses — to bring a small touch of colour and cheer to families struggling through the Great Depression. Today, Depression Glass collecting is one of the largest vintage glass hobbies in the world, with the iridescent carnival glass pieces among the most prized.
