Cutlery Boxed: Cake Forks, Set of 7

Boxed Set of 7 Vintage Old English Fiddle-Back Cake Forks in Original Presentation Case.

A charming, high-character set of seven vintage pastry and cake forks housed in their original mid-century presentation box. Each fork features the classic Old English fiddle-back handle with a subtle heart-tail silhouette, paired with the distinctive wide, left-side notched tine engineered specifically for cleanly slicing through fine bakes, tarts, and sponge cakes.

The forks are securely nested inside a presentation-grade display case lined with original ruched peach satin and velvet interior fabrics. The exterior features a highly stylized dark chocolate-brown faux alligator embossed leatherette skin, complete with a beautifully preserved silver-tone metal filigree slide clasp. Each piece carries a crisp recessed manufacturer stamp on the reverse of the stem.

Original Intended Use: Elegant formal table service for slicing and dining on single-portion pastries, cakes, and high-tea desserts.

Alternate Suggested Use: A spectacular prop for food bloggers and vintage styling photography, a gorgeous display piece for a rustic baker's storefront cabinet, or repurposed as high-character cocktail and charcuterie platter fruit forks.

More Details

These forks are stamped "CHROME STAINLESS PLATE," which is an incredibly practical composition for everyday vintage use.

Unlike traditional silver-plated brass or copper pieces that turn a bright green or corrode into deep pits once the outer plating wears down, a solid stainless steel base core guarantees that these forks remain completely non-reactive, food-safe, and deeply resistant to rust or bending, even in areas with active plating wear.

The distinctive wide tine on a pastry fork is historically notched on the left side to act like a built-in knife edge, allowing high-society diners to slice pieces off a pastry cake using only one hand while holding a tea saucer in the other.

Did you Know?

The distinctive wide notched tine on a pastry fork has a fascinating etiquette history. It was specifically designed to allow high-society diners to slice a portion of cake or pastry using only one hand — the notch acting as a built-in knife edge — while the other hand held a tea saucer. This single-handed dining convention was considered the height of refined table manners at formal Victorian and Edwardian afternoon teas, and the design has remained virtually unchanged ever since.

Visible Flaws: The forks show authentic, honest chrome plate wear on the front faces and tine tips from repetitive historical use.

The original presentation box shows minor surface scuffs and light rubbing wear on the corners and base edges where the binder board slightly peeks through, consistent with decades of proud storage.
