Czechoslovakian: Art Glass Blue Green Ombre Vase

Breathtakingly Beautiful Mid-Century Modern Blue & Green Ombré Art Glass Vase.

Research suggests this piece was likely designed by Josef Hospodka for the Chřibská Glassworks in former Czechoslovakia. The style, colour gradient (blue and green cased in clear glass), and wavy rim are characteristic of the large, hand-blown sommerso-style art glass produced by Chřibská during the 1950s–1960s.

Defined by organic, free-flowing "liquid sculpture" shapes, vibrant layered colours, and heavy solid construction — this is a significant piece of Mid-Century Modern European art glass.

Did you Know?

Josef Hospodka was the chief designer during this period, and this specific shape is a known design of his. This vase is a vintage item, not a contemporary mass-produced one. The pontil mark is evidence of a hand-made item, distinguishing it from most mass-produced, machine-made glass which often has a smooth, seamless base.

Chřibská Glassworks (full name Sklárna Chřibská) was an historic and significant Czech glass company founded in 1414, making it one of the oldest operating glassworks in Central Europe until its closure in 2007.

After World War II, the factory was nationalized and became part of the Borske Sklo National Corporation. During this post-war period, especially the 1950s and 1960s, Chřibská gained international recognition for its unique style of Mid-Century Modern art glass.
