Decorative Plates: Kaiser West Germany "Etruria" Gilded Porcelain Dishes, 5

Matching set of five vintage miniature dishes of mid-century German ceramic heritage.

Manufactured in West Germany by the historic porcelain house Kaiser, this uniform 5-piece collection features their celebrated "Etruria" botanical mandala design. Each dish is masterfully crafted from fine, translucent white feldspathic porcelain, decorated with a thick 24-karat gold leaf silk-screened floral pattern that shifts from a rich ochre tan into a brilliant, polished gold reflection under ambient light.

Authentically produced in Kronach, Bavaria, West Germany, by Alka-Kunst Kaiser Porzellan. Renowned globally throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Kaiser became an absolute titan of European luxury porcelain, celebrated for producing ultra-fine, glass-hard vitrified china blanks used by top-tier continental designers.

Featuring the official blue underglaze factory crest on the reverse footprint, displaying the royal crown hallmark over the "AK KAISER" signature baseline. The central floral mandala is executed using high-fire metallic slips. The gold leaf is applied thickly over the white porcelain glaze, ensuring the high-gloss metallic finish remains scratch-resistant and chemically stable against food acids.

Original Intended Use: Premium residential fine dining individual butter servers, luxury crystal glassware coasters, or formal side plates. Alternate Suggested Use: A spectacular texturized staging prop system for boutique lifestyle photography, elegant individual jewellery trinket dishes on a bedroom vanity console, or a unique gift for a European porcelain collector.

Did you Know?

The historic porcelain artists of Bavaria formulated their fine-art clays using massive quantities of pure local kaolin sand, which allowed them to fire these small plates to extreme high temperatures until they became as hard and smooth as glass. Kaiser was completely famous for their metallic silk-screening methods. Instead of flat gold paint, they layered genuine crushed 24k gold leaf particles into the silk matrices before firing the plates a second time inside a reduction furnace. This precise engineering is why the floral mandalas seem to completely change colour right before your eyes—shifting from a quiet, matte ochre shadow in the dark to a blazing, mirror-smooth golden sunburst the moment you tilt them into the daylight!

Made in West Germany (Bavaria), c. 1970s, making this original uniform suite a beautifully preserved vintage treasure.
