Vintage Johnson Brothers "Seafare" Collection — Part Set of 10 Pieces.

A charming and highly collectible part set from the Johnson Brothers "Seafare" line — a beloved vintage series featuring detailed illustrations of sea creatures on crisp white earthenware. This set of 10 comprises:

6 Bread & Butter Plates (Cockle design), 1 Dinner Plate (Lobster design), 2 Dinner Plates (Mussel design), 1 Dinner Plate (Shrimp design).

Each plate is individually labelled with its sea creature name, making this a wonderfully whimsical and educational coastal table setting. Produced by Johnson Brothers at their Hanley works in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England during the 1960s.

Original Intended Use: Serving seafood courses or bringing a coastal theme to everyday dining.

More Details

Johnson Brothers was founded in 1883 in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, by four brothers — Alfred, Frederick, Henry, and Robert Johnson. The company grew to become one of the most prolific and beloved English earthenware manufacturers of the 20th century, known for producing durable, affordable, and beautifully illustrated tableware for everyday use. The Seafare pattern, produced in the 1960s, reflects the era's growing appetite for themed, illustrative dinnerware that brought personality and storytelling to the dining table.

Did you Know?

The Johnson Brothers Seafare pattern is one of the most actively sought replacement sets on vintage tableware networks globally, as collectors piece together complete services from individual plates found in charity shops and estate sales. Each plate in the Seafare line features a different sea creature — cockle, crab, lobster, mussel, oyster, and shrimp — making a complete set of all six designs a genuine collector's achievement. Finding multiple examples of the rarer Lobster and Shrimp designs together, as in this set, is particularly uncommon.
