The master image printed here was originally designed in London on July 7, 1748, by German-born illustrator Georg Dionysius Ehret, the most influential botanical artist of the 18th century.

Even more exciting for local collectors: the Latin
text at the bottom explicitly notes that this magnificent Lilio-Narcissus specimen was originally collected from the Cape of Good Hope in 1740! It was shipped across the Atlantic, where it successfully bloomed for the first time in England at the famous Chelsea Physic Garden before Ehret hand-engraved the metal copperplate to immortalize it.
