Decorative Art Glass: Empoli Amber Art Glass Sunburst Decanter

Vintage art glass decanter of mid-century Italian heritage, with a rich golden texture, and sophisticated space-age character.

Manufactured in the historic glassmaking region of Empoli, Italy, this heavy-gauge amber glass vessel features a sleek, flattened circular canteen silhouette. Both faces are decorated with a magnificent, high-relief moulded radial sunburst pattern that catches and refracts ambient light beautifully. Complete with its original matching geometric thumbprint stopper and an embossed factory provenance hallmark on the base, this pristine 60-year-old statement piece serves as an extraordinary conversational hosting asset or a standalone sculptural suncatcher.

Authentically produced in the Tuscany region of Italy, near Florence. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Empoli workshops became globally revered for shifting away from traditional utilitarian green glass to pioneer bold, geometric architectural shapes in vibrant amber, blue, and emerald tones. The rectangular flat-turned base features a prominent, raised moulded hallmark reading: "MADE IN ITALY", certifying its authentic mid-century European import lineage. The Geometric Stopper: Features a heavy, custom-moulded crown stopper detailed with four deep thumbprint medallions on the upper face, equipped with its original white ribbed seal ring to ensure an airtight closure.

Original Intended Use: High-status residential spirits decanter, formal liquor serving bottle, or Italian barware ornament. Alternate Suggested Use: A spectacular texturized staging prop system for luxury hospitality photography, a beautiful suncatcher bottle placed on a bright windowsill, or an exceptional holiday gift for a retro bar cart enthusiast.

Did you Know?

The historic glass blowers of Empoli were famous for creating heavy 'canteen-style' flat-sided bottles because they were originally used by Tuscan vineyard workers as portable leather-wrapped flasks for the fields. In the 1960s, local artists reimagined this traditional shape into high-end decorative art, using industrial iron presses to stamp this bold, futuristic sunburst pattern into the hot glass. Because amber glass has a very high iron and sulphur sand density, it acts like a natural lens—meaning when morning sun hit a bar cart styled with these decanters, the radial grooves would project a warm, glowing solar pattern right across the walls of the room.
Origin & Era

Made in Italy (Empoli, Tuscany), c. 1960s–1970s, making this decanter 50+ years of age and a European glass treasure.
