Glass Pitcher: Hollywood Regency Claret Jug

A spectacularly luxurious vintage Hollywood Regency Cut-Glass Claret Jug and Wine Decanter Pitcher, capturing the opulent barware aesthetic of the 1960s and 1970s.

The thick, substantial crystal-clear glass body is intricately embellished with a deeply moulded multi-faceted geometric diamond-cut hobnail pattern that plays beautifully with light, transitioning seamlessly into sleek vertical ribbing along the upper shoulder. The underside features an exquisite multi-pointed moulded starburst medallion.

Topped with highly polished mirror-shine gold-plated mounts, a flared pouring spout, and an ornate baroque-style heavy cast scroll handle showcasing intricate acanthus leaf relief details.

Original Intended Use: Elegant tableside serving of fine claret or red wine at formal dinner parties. Alternate Suggested Use: A dramatic centrepiece vase for fresh greenery or calla lilies, or a chic decanter for batched signature cocktails on a curated drinks trolley.

Care: Always hand-wash gently and dry immediately with a soft microfibre cloth to preserve the gold plating and glass clarity.

More Details

Most of these premium mid-century decanters were crafted in Italy by specialised decorative metal and glass foundries — such as Metalstil — for export to elite global boutiques. The combination of precision-moulded cut glass with ornate gold-plated metal mounts was a hallmark of the Hollywood Regency style, which dominated luxury home entertaining from the late 1950s through the 1970s.

Today these stunning pitchers are highly prized by interior designers and cocktail enthusiasts as show-stopping decorative accents for vintage brass bar carts and mid-century sideboards.

Did you Know?

Claret jugs were originally designed in the 19th century to elegantly serve aged Bordeaux wines — historically referred to as "claret" by the British — while leaving the natural bitter grape sediment behind in the original bottle. The wide-based, narrow-necked form was specifically engineered to aerate the wine as it was poured, softening tannins and releasing the bouquet.

Origin & Era

Made in Italy, 1960's-1970’s.

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Height 28.5cm, Length 18cm and very Heavy for its Size.

Vintage Condition

The heavy glass body is exceptionally clear, bright, and free from dangerous cracks, internal cloudiness, or hard water staining.

The moulded diamond facets are crisp with no major impact fractures.

The polished gold-plated collar maintains a beautiful mirror shine. The cast handle displays a gorgeous, authentic deep brass patina in its recessed grooves.

The underside polished foot ring shows only very light, standard surface scuffing from domestic countertop contact over the decades, completely consistent with age.
