Did you Know?

The "Glo-White" backstamp indicates Alfred Meakin's premium mid-20th-century ironstone body, engineered specifically to resist the dull greying common in older earthenware formulas.

Post-war British ceramic exports to South Africa heavily favoured these warm, agrarian botanical designs, which resonated with local farmhouse decor trends throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

Alfred Meakin operated from the famous Royal Albert, Victoria, and Medway Highgate Potteries, securing a reputation for durable yet highly elegant everyday tea ware.

Origin & Era

Made in England, 1950s.

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Cup Height 7.5cm, Cup Diameter 8.5cm, Saucer Diameter 14.5cm.

Vintage Condition

Good vintage condition showing minor signs of utilitarian use.

Visible Flaws: Minor age-related wear. Close inspection reveals small factory production anomalies, including tiny flea-bite glaze skips along the rim of one cup and light flecks of stray green paint from the original hand-banding process. The saucers exhibit faint, localized surface utensil marks and very fine glaze crazing lines under direct light, proving decades of authentic household use. One teacup features a fine dark line on the rim, consistent with a historic surface-level firing mark. No structural cracks or deep chips present.
