High Tea: Colclough English Chintz Crinoline Lady Creamer

Vintage Colclough English Chintz Crinoline Lady Creamer.

A visually striking vintage English porcelain creamer jug. The body displays a high-gloss glaze over an ivory base, completely enveloped along the shoulders with dense, shimmering gold chintz filigree. The central vignette features a crisply detailed lady in a classic crinoline gown walking through a cottage path flanked by delphiniums, hollyhocks, and stone-carved accents.

The handle boasts an ergonomic thumb rest with subtle scrollwork, balancing the ornate weight distribution of the piece. The inner lip is clean white, allowing the gold gilding on the outer rim to catch the light beautifully when staged.

Original Intended Use: Originally designed for milk or cream service, but now best suited for decorative display.

Alternate Suggested Use: A gorgeous standalone cabinet display piece, a unique vintage holder for vanity makeup brushes, or repurposed as a dry faux-floral holder to bypass the need for water.

More Details

Manufactured in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, by Colclough China (Pattern No. CLC10). This specific variety features the highly romanticized "Crinoline Lady in a Garden" theme, an immensely popular design trend that dominated British decorative arts from the 1930s through the post-war 1950s.

The "Crinoline Lady" aesthetic evokes classic Edwardian and Victorian nostalgia, making genuine Colclough pieces like this a cornerstone for dedicated vintage high-tea collectors across South Africa and the Commonwealth.

Did you Know?

"Crinoline" originally referred to the stiffened structured petticoats worn to expand skirts in the mid-19th century.

By the 1930s, English ceramicists adopted this imagery to provide escapist, idyllic pastoral charm to everyday kitchenware, sparking an international collecting craze that survives strongly today on online platforms.

Origin & Era

Made in United Kingdom, Circa 1940–1950s.

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Height 9cm, Length 12cm, Width 8.5cm.

Despite the interior structural line, the exterior gold gilding along the top scalloped edge remains remarkably sharp, bright, and presents beautifully on a shelf.
