Master Potter: Doulton Lambeth Eliza Simmance Protea Stoneware Set, 7

This exceptional seven-piece beverage service combines historic British craftsmanship with striking botanical design, showcasing a stylized Protea flower motif meticulously hand-painted against a creamy stoneware body. Designed and decorated under the guidance of the legendary Lambeth studio artist Eliza Simmance (1857–1935), this set carries her distinct late-Victorian aesthetic flair. Comprising a generous master pitcher and six matching flared tumblers, each piece is defined by its elegant proportions, warm earthy undertones, and a refined hand-painted gold rim that catches the light beautifully.

This is an Authentic Late-Victorian Doulton Lambeth stoneware beverage service. Hand-painted by celebrated master studio artist Eliza Simmance (active 1873–1928). Featuring a beautifully stylized indigenous South African Protea flower motif. This complete 7-piece set includes one large master pitcher and six identically matched flared tumblers. Finished with a luxurious, intact hand-painted gold accent along the rims. Impressed with official factory stamps, artist initials, and numeric size/mold markers underneath.

Style this magnificent set as a commanding dining table centrepiece or display it on an open wooden dresser to add immediate historic character, botanical heritage, and texture to a modern interior.

Original Intended Use: Refined tabletop water or ale serving set. Alternate Suggested Use: High-end decorative mantle styling set or unique botanical vessel arrangement.

More Details
  • Master Designer Provenance: Features the incised studio markings of celebrated artist Eliza Simmance, who pioneered the studio's transition from high-Gothic designs into fluid, organic botanical studies.
  • Her hand-painted works from this late 19th-century window are highly prized by global art-pottery collectors.
  • Produced at the legendary Doulton & Co. works in Lambeth, London, an industrial facility celebrated for pioneering artistic stoneware during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
  • Features an incised, simple "Doulton Lambeth England" factory mark on the base, a specific stamping format utilized strictly between 1891 and 1902 following the US McKinley Tariff Act but prior to the Royal Warrant.
  • This specific South African botanical protea motif on a cream Doulton Lambeth stoneware body is an exceptionally elusive regional interest pattern that rarely surfaces as a complete multi-piece service, making it highly critical for heritage dinnerware set completion in the Replacement China South Africa collector market.
