Oil Paintings: George R. Deakins Signed Stylized Harbour Scene Oil Painting

An authentic original work by the listed British naval veteran and artist George Richard Deakins (1911–1982).

Featuring a stylized harbour scene with sailing vessels under a blue sky.

Executed in a heavy impasto technique, the artwork showcases thick, raised ridges of paint applied with a palette knife to build distinct textural depth across the board. Housed in its original, white-washed wood frame with an inner gilded gold border slip, this textured piece adds a beautiful mid-century artistic presence to a gallery wall or shelf styling arrangement.

British artist George R. Deakins (1911-1982) was known for his expressive palette-knife paintings, a technique that involves applying oil paint in thick layers rather than using traditional brushwork.

This method creates dramatic texture and depth, allowing light to interact with the raised paint surface in a way that changes subtly throughout the day. Collectors often seek out impasto works because the heavily sculpted paint gives each piece a distinctive three-dimensional character that cannot be replicated by printed reproductions.

The painting is hand-signed "DEAKINS" directly into the wet paint layer in the lower left corner. The reverse side retains its original paper studio label reading textually: "George R. Deakins (United Society of Artists), Home Address: The Old Rectory, Nettlecombe, Taunton, Somerset. Studio Address: Church Street Studio, Dunster, Somerset," providing ironclad verification of its mid-century origin.
