Baking Dish: Portmeirion Pomona L'Imperatice Plum Flan Tart Dish

Beautiful vintage flan tart dish, classic British ceramic heritage with rich botanical illustration, and country cottage elegance.

Masterfully manufactured in Stoke-on-Trent, England, by Portmeirion Pottery, this heavy-gauge earthenware dish belongs to their iconic "Pomona" collection designed by Susan Williams-Ellis. The interior basin features a detailed botanical study of the "L'Imperatice Plum" showing rich violet-purple fruit and variegated green leaves, framed by heavy, architectural fluted walls. Completely functional as a premium baking vessel or a striking display piece, this large-scale vintage archive item adds an immediate layer of organic warmth and luxury to an open country shelf vignette or kitchen island layout.

The Portmeirion Heritage: Authentically produced in Staffordshire, England, by Portmeirion Pottery. Launched in 1982, the Pomona collection was named after the Roman goddess of fruit and features classic 18th-century style botanical book illustrations reimagined for premium domestic tableware. The base features the clear green factory stamp reading: "Portmeirion Pottery Stoke on Trent - Made in England" surrounded by their characteristic concentric ribbed throwing lines. Form-engineered with a thick-walled, scalloped perimeter edge that creates a perfect fluted pastry crust during baking, while providing excellent structural thermal retention.

Original Intended Use: Premium residential fruit tart baking, savoury quiche hosting, or dessert presentation. Alternate Suggested Use: A spectacular texturized staging prop system for culinary lifestyle photography, an elegant tabletop fruit display dish, or a beautiful feature piece on an open kitchen shelf vignette.

Did you Know?

Susan Williams-Ellis named the individual fruits in the Pomona collection after historic fruit varieties grown during the height of the British agricultural boom. The 'L'Imperatice Plum' was an exceptionally rare, prized heirloom plum originally cultivated for the royal orchards of France because its dense, sugary flesh could be slowly dried into luxury prunes for winter banquets. Portmeirion used high-fired ceramic transfers to capture the rich, deep purple-blue skin gradients of the fruit, ensuring the illustration stays completely vibrant and scratch-proof even after decades of hot baking fires and country kitchen use!
