More Details
  • This item is a high-quality vintage mid-to-late 20th-century fine art portfolio reproduction of a classic 1812 British Regency engraving.
  • The composition replicates "Fox-Hunting, Pl. 2," originally drawn and etched by the celebrated British sporting artist Samuel Howitt (1756–1822) and published in London by Royal Print seller Edward Orme.
  • The print retains the original historical plate inscriptions, including "Howitt inv. et f." and the 1812 republication text line.
  • The modern sans-serif typography displaying the index notation "549/1" in the lower right border identifies this specimen as a plate sheet carefully salvaged from a premium, mid-century European retrospective art compilation or reference portfolio.
  • It is housed in an artisan-cut solid fruitwood frame from the same era.
Did you Know?

While this is a high-quality vintage mid-century portfolio reproduction sheet rather than a 200-year-old piece of paper, it captures all the rich details of the 1812 original! The original publisher, Edward Orme, was the official print seller to King George III. The artist, Samuel Howitt, was famous for his incredibly accurate drawings of animals and horses. The small "549/1" printed in the corner is a modern catalogue reference number from the fine art portfolio this print was originally preserved in, making it a wonderful piece of mid-century publishing history.

Origin & Era

Made in Europe, Circa 1970, making this piece 56 years old.

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Height 42cm, Length 48cm, Frame Width 2cm.

Vintage Condition

Structurally sound vintage condition. Visible Flaws: The paper print shows uniform age-toning and scattered minor foxing marks. The solid fruitwood frame shows surface scuffs, wear on the corner joints, and a prominent, rough natural bark-edge anomaly along the top edge of the timber. The reverse side is sealed with paper backing and features a vintage wire suspension cord.
