Stemware: Kosta Boda Ebba Green Bullicante Martini Glasses, 3

Set of 3 vintage Martini Glasses with Controlled Bubble Ball Stem Bases — identified as Kosta Boda Ebba Green Bullicante Champagne Sherbet Glasses, from the Swedish glassworks founded in 1742.

The distinctive Bullicante technique features precisely controlled air bubbles trapped within the weighted ball stem, creating a mesmerising decorative effect that catches and refracts light beautifully. These carry no maker's mark, which was common for Kosta Boda export stemware of this era, and are attributed based on their design characteristics and construction.

A perfect addition to a curated vintage bar collection or a stunning set for cocktail entertaining.

More Details

Kosta Boda, founded in 1742 in Småland, Sweden, is one of the world's oldest continuously operating glasshouses. The "Ebba" line was part of their mid-century decorative stemware range, featuring the Bullicante technique — an Italian glassblowing method adopted by Scandinavian glasshouses in which controlled air bubbles are deliberately trapped within the molten glass stem during production.

Each bubble is individually placed by the glassblower, making every stem subtly unique. The technique requires exceptional skill and timing, as the bubbles must be introduced at precisely the right temperature to prevent them from collapsing or migrating within the glass.

Did you Know?

The Bullicante technique — from the Italian word for "bubbling" — originated in Murano, Venice, where glassblowers discovered that trapping air pockets within the glass created a jewel-like internal texture. The technique was later adopted by Scandinavian glasshouses in the mid-20th century and became a signature decorative element in high-end Swedish and Finnish stemware design.
