Vases: Stiver Italy Frosted Art Glass "Lily Calyx" Trumpet Vase
IMPORTANT LISTING UPDATE & PRICE REDUCTION: This listing was originally for a matching pair valued at R3,220.00. However, during final preparation and wrapping for storage, the companion vase unfortunately snapped at the foot loop. I am incredibly grateful this happened in my care rather than in transit to a buyer!
On the plus side for you, the broken vase was the one carrying the structural base fracture and interior staining. The remaining piece offered here is the absolute best, cleanest, and most pristine vase of the original pair. The listing has been updated to a single vase only, and the price has been heavily slashed to reflect the change. Your gain is my heartbreak!
A breathtaking and sculptural monument to post-war European art glass, this magnificent single frosted satin trumpet vase captures the organic fluid grandeur of the 1970s space-age floral movement.
Masterfully free-blown in Murano, Italy, the avant-garde architecture erupts from a continuous, thick-gauge glass rod that has been pulled, stretched, and coiled into a sweeping, self-supporting circular pedestal loop base. The column rises cleanly before expanding into an immense, deeply ribbed trumpet body that terminates in a dramatic, multi-undulated wavy rim mimicking a calla lily calyx.
Original Intended Use: Premium long-stemmed floral trumpet vase or dining room centrepiece.
Alternate Suggested Use: High-impact interior styling, a commanding space-age architectural mantel sculpture, or a luminous vanity accent to catch natural sunlight.
Did You Know? The iconic “Lily Calyx” or “Canna” vases produced by Stiver in the 1970s were at the absolute forefront of Italy’s organic modernism movement. Rather than casting glass into static metal moulds, Murano masters used a high-skill technique where the glass was blown free-hand, while a second artisan simultaneously pulled and manipulated the base loop using heavy iron jacks. The velvety matte finish was achieved by subjecting the completed, cooled crystal to a specialised acid-etching bath, creating a permanent, diffused surface texture that eliminates harsh reflections.
Made in Murano, Italy, circa 1970s, making this vase 50+ years old.
Approximate Dimensions: Total Height: 25cm | Outer Rim Flare Diameter: 22.5cm | Base Loop Coiled Outer Width: 18.5cm
Condition: Clear, uncompromising assessment prioritising structural transparency. This individual, heavy hand-blown frosted glass body maintains complete structural integrity, standing beautifully stable, level, and balanced on its coiled base.
Visible Flaws: Honest inspection of the base ring reveals an authentic, native 2.5cm factory furnace shear-line and glass fold seam from the original 1970s manual manufacturing process. This area is entirely smooth to the touch, structurally fused, and completely water-tested to confirm zero leaks. The rim is perfectly fire-polished and entirely free from modern post-production chips or cracks. Please note: the companion vase mentioned in early watch notifications is no longer included.
