Masterfully thrown at the historic Ford Potteries in Scotland, the heavy salt-glazed stoneware body showcases a crisp, black-underglaze transfer print for the iconic "Buttercup Dairy Co", featuring an incredibly detailed, hand-engraved illustration of a prize dairy cow framed by traditional clover sprigs and a scrolling banner. 

The crock is flanked by two heavy, hand-moulded lug handles and bears an impressed "5 LB" capacity stamp. The reverse side of the vessel features the deeply stamped official maker's hallmark reading "Buchan, Portobello, Edinburgh." Most notably, this spectacular specimen is accompanied by its rare, original matching bristol-glaze lid. Intricately moulded with dense concentric rings of geometric bead-and-button decoration, the lid features a rich, multi-toned iron-brown glaze that perfectly mirrors the collar rim of the crock. Uncovered after a careful, meticulous restoration to remove over a century of built-up historical black grease and carbon soot, this complete pairing is a dazzling statement piece that commands absolute authority in a premier antique collection.

Condition: Very good antique structural condition. The main stoneware crock body is incredibly robust, displaying a brilliant glaze, full handle stability, and sharp, unfaded black advertising text graphics. Visible Flaws: The underside rim of the heavy brown lid shows several historic glaze flakes and chips around the outer seating lip from a century of real-world kitchen handling, leaving the raw cream stoneware exposed beneath the brown glaze. The crock body exhibits a minor, historic 1cm production glaze-pull or kiln flake on the lower beaded rim line from the original factory firing process. The interior basin is clean and completely stable with no modern cracks, hairlines, or structural repairs. Factory Surface Variance: Characteristic pooling and pitting in the salt glaze are visible along the flanks, serving as definitive hallmarks of early 20th-century coal-fired kiln placement.
