Studio Pottery: Pottery Mugs, 6

Set of 6 handmade studio pottery mugs, signed with a cursive "E" — origin unconfirmed, likely South African.

Large, fully glazed mugs decorated in a beautiful palette of slate grey, green, white, blue, and ochre. Smooth to the touch inside and out. The maker is unknown but each mug bears what appears to be a capital cursive letter E signature. Perfect for lazy winter mornings with big cups of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate — and a lovely housewarming gift for lovers of handmade ceramics.

Did you Know?

Studio pottery mugs signed with initials or a single letter were commonly produced by independent South African potters who sold through craft markets, galleries, and co-operatives from the 1970s onward. Without a full name or studio mark, attribution is difficult — but the signature confirms these were made by a deliberate, practising artist rather than a commercial factory. Sets of six in matching glazes are increasingly rare to find intact, as individual mugs tend to break or become separated over decades of use.
