Did you Know?

The Old Jar Pottery (T.O.J.) operated in Benoni, Gauteng from 1953 to 1984, celebrated across South Africa for its vibrant maiolica-style domestic ware. During peak production in the 1970s, a small guild of talented decorators hand-painted intricate folk-art patterns across entire matching kitchen sets — each piece individually decorated, making no two exactly alike. T.O.J. was highly praised for creating functional art that transformed ordinary South African kitchens into spaces filled with European-influenced hand-decorated charm. Finding multiple matching shapes together from this era is a genuine treat for regional ceramic collectors.

Origin & Era

Made in South Africa, 1970s–1980s, making this set 40+ years old.

Dimensions

Approximate Dimensions: Diameter 9cm, Height 10cm.

Vintage Condition

Excellent vintage structure with superb display quality.

Visible Flaws: Minor age-appropriate wear. The original cork lids remain completely functional with typical, natural vintage texture variations. The interior of the pitcher features beautiful, clean glaze crazing (fine hairline crackle lines under the gloss), which is completely stable, non-structural, and a natural, highly desired characteristic of aged vintage earthenware glazes.
