Trinkets: Crystal Bird Box Miniature Lidded Trinket Dish

Vintage Crystal Bird Box Miniature Lidded Trinket Dish, West Germany.

A heavy, small-scale lidded vessel sculpted with architectural facet lines that contrast beautifully with the organic curves of the bird finial. The hand-detailed lampwork on the avian topper introduces a pop of colour to the otherwise icy, clear lead crystal.

This distinctive style originates from the historic glassmaking hubs of Bavaria, Germany, popularised mid-century by houses like Hofbauer Bleikristall for their specialised "Byrdes" series. Collectors highly seek variants with colour-tipped finials as they break up the monochrome nature of traditional clear crystal collections.

Original Intended Use: Vanity ring holder, small dresser jewel pot.
Alternate Suggested Use: Sculptural desktop paperweight or bedside earring keeper.

More Details

The hand-detailed lampwork on the avian topper introduces a pop of colour to the otherwise icy, clear lead crystal.

The rim interfaces clean and direct, allowing the cut patterns of the upper and lower halves to visually merge when closed. Under direct sunlight, the sharp facets cast complex, brilliant geometric prism patterns across surrounding surfaces.

Did you Know?

In traditional German glass culture, lead crystal containing at least 24% lead oxide was the standard for luxury goods because the material remains soft enough to execute deep, crisp hand-cutting and high-clarity polishing.
