This substantial estate piece features a dramatic, wide-flared top bowl that sweeps down into a ringed pedestal column and rests firmly on a stable, three-footed base adorned with intricately detailed acanthus leaf scrolls.

The exterior is finished in an incredibly rich, high-gloss faux tortoiseshell and mottled espresso patination with deep amber and golden undertones that shift beautifully under natural light. 

A true collector’s find for premium interior styling. The wide top bowl section is skilfully crafted from spun sheet brass/copper—visible through the fine concentric lathe lines on the interior surface—while the pedestal and footed base are solid cast metal, providing an exceptional, bottom-heavy weight.

This hybrid construction ensures the piece is beautifully balanced and completely sturdy. Fine glints of the original copper-flash underplating naturally peek through the edges of the acanthus feet, offering highly sought-after vintage character, depth, and material authenticity.

During the early 20th century and the height of the Art Deco movement, natural tortoiseshell was incredibly rare, costly, and heavily regulated. Elite décor artisans perfected the art of "chemical acid patination" and layered lacquer glazes on spun metal to replicate the coveted mottled luxury of tortoiseshell for high-end hotel lounges and estate manors.

Vintage Condition

Excellent vintage condition. Structurally flawless, perfectly balanced, and entirely intact with no fractures or missing feet. Minor age-related wear. Features two small, shallow surface dents/dimples on the upper flared slope of the spun metal basin (clearly visible under certain light angles as shown in the close-up profile and top-down photos). Includes light surface scuffs and minor historic lacquer wear to the interior reservoir base, with gentle natural oxidization on the tips of the acanthus feet exposing the underlying copper layer.
